This policy explains what information ReptileWise ("we", "us", "our") collects when you visit reptilewise.com (the "Site"), how it is used, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little information as possible while keeping the Site working and improving.

Information we collect

We do not require you to create an account or submit personal information to read our content. The information we do collect falls into two categories:

  • Usage data. Pages visited, referring site, approximate region, device type, and similar metrics collected in aggregate. We use this to understand which articles and tools are useful.
  • Information you choose to send us. If you email [email protected] with a question or correction, we receive whatever you put in that message.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The Site is not directed at children, and we do not solicit personal details from them.

Cookies and analytics

The Site uses cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:

  • Privacy-focused analytics (Umami). We run Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that reports aggregate, anonymized usage data. It does not use cookies to identify you across other websites and does not sell data.
  • Google Analytics 4. Where enabled, GA4 may set cookies (_ga, _gid) to measure traffic. You can opt out via Google's opt-out tool or your browser's cookie controls.
  • Affiliate tracking. When you click an Amazon link, Amazon may set cookies on your browser so it can credit any qualifying purchase to our account. These cookies are governed by Amazon's Privacy Notice, not ours.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies will not prevent you from reading our content.

Amazon Associates disclosure

ReptileWise is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon.com. When you click a product link and make a qualifying purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.

Third-party services

When you use the Site, the following third parties may process limited data as described in their own policies:

  • Amazon — for affiliate link tracking and any purchases you make on Amazon.
  • Google — for Google Analytics 4 (where enabled) and for the fonts loaded from Google Fonts.
  • Umami — for our self-hosted / privacy-friendly analytics.
  • Your CDN / hosting provider — for serving the Site over HTTPS.

We do not sell or rent your information to anyone, and we do not share usage data with advertising networks for cross-site ad targeting.

Your choices

Data retention

Aggregate analytics data is retained for as long as it remains useful for understanding Site performance. Personal information you send us by email is kept only as long as needed to respond and handle the matter.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
